Amy Cardona, RN

Amy has been in the Surgery Admitting Unit for the past five years and prior to that she spent 20 years as a RN in PIH Health’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She ensures patients are ready for surgery. Patient safety is a critical part of her role which is why she follows hospital policies such as using two patient identifiers when transferring patients or taking their bloodwork. Amy has always been a caregiver, but seeing the role nurses had in helping her cousin give birth, inspired her to pursue nursing.

“I think the best part of my role is knowing I helped minimize a patient’s anxiety prior to surgery. I especially appreciate when they come back from a procedure and say, ‘you were right! It wasn’t bad.’” Amy Cardona, RN, Surgery Admitting Unit
